I intended to write an email blast announcing that half of the performances of THE LYONS are already SOLD OUT. That’s probably because people have heard that this sharp-as-a-tack black comedy (a recent Broadway hit) provides enough laughs to fight off even the coldest of polar vortexes (vortices???).
But then something happened that I just had to share. One of those astonishingly ironic only-in-RI moments.
I reported for jury duty this morning with my laptop in tow, assuming, this being 2014, that the Superior Court would be equipped with accessible WiFi.
After we finished watching the “so you’re a juror now” video extolling the virtues and responsibilities of democracy and justice, we were brought to the “lounge” to await further instructions.
I pulled out my laptop to get to work answering an email or two.
When I clicked on Hotmail, the network connections menu dropped down and I searched for something resembling “superior court visitor.”
Sadly, there was no such network listed.
I put away my laptop and took out a book. Then I noticed a fellow juror contentedly surfing the web. I asked if the courthouse had a guest network.
“No,” he said, “but they told me to pirate RISD’s”.
Only in Rhode Island, eh?
Suffice it to say, this newsletter comes to you courtesy of the Rhode Island School of Design.
Best,
Ed
