Ed Shea, Artistic Director at 2nd Story Theatre

Play #7, closing out the DownStage season is Paul Zindel’s And Miss Reardon Drinks a Little. You might recognize Zindel as the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds (coincidentally a close runner-up for Best Play Title of all Time).

As he did in Marigolds, Zindel focuses on a tightly knit family and the ways they help and hinder each other’s growth.

But what makes Miss Reardon truly exceptional is the perfect balance of outrageous comedic episodes with devastatingly tragic revelations.

And I have to say, in all my years in the theatre, that tension between laughter and horror has never been more perfectly wrought.

It’s another why-haven’t-I-seen-this-before? play.

An overlooked gem.

Great. Just great.

That’s #7.  The 8th and final play in our 2014-15 season will hit your inbox tomorrow.

And, if you are on our USPS mailing list, you’ll get the brochure right after Labor Day.

Best,
Ed

And Then There Were None

UpStage in Rep / Our Last Weekend!
A mysterious host brings an unlikely group of guests to a remote island where, one by one, they start to die. Who’s the killer? Who’s the next victim? Following the success of last summer’s Mousetrap, we thought we’d invite you to enjoy another murderously entertaining whodunit.

Hay Fever

UpStage in Rep / Our Last Weekend!
This classic comedy introduces us to the uber- bohemian Bliss family: the father, a famous writer; the mother, a renowned actress, and two equally eccentric children. Each invites a friend to their summer home where the hosts foist each guest off on a different family member, with alarmingly delightful results.
